According to the Aircraft Crashes Record Office, 8,231 passengers have died in Aeroflot crashes, about five times more than any other airline (all of which were far smaller).[1] From 1946 to 1989, the carrier was involved in 721 incidents. However, from 1995 to 2017, the carrier was involved in only 10 incidents. Following the retirement of the 1970s era Tupolev Tu-154 in 2010, Aeroflot's fleet consisted primarily of aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, in addition to the Ilyushin Il-96 and more recently the Sukhoi Superjet 100. In 2013, AirlineRatings.com reported that five of the ten aircraft models involved in the highest numbers of fatal accidents[2] were old Soviet models.[3]
